A couple of months ago, I spoke about photography at a MOPS group in Greer and I gave away a free mini-session to one lucky mom. It couldn't have working out better that the winner was 8 months pregnant! I had the pleasure of photographing this beautiful new baby yesterday at a whopping 5 lbs.

January and February are not typically fun months to do outdoor portraiture, especially when you have an uncharacteristically snowy winter in upstate South Carolina! But in February I am doing a special for Friday and Saturday in-home lifestyle sessions! This has become a very popular style of photography and I really prefer it to studio portraiture these days. I come in your home and we take pictures using mostly natural lighting from windows and doors in comfortable living spaces. We capture you and your family in your home interacting with each other and catch great candid moments with children.
In February, I'm offering these in-home lifestyle sessions for $100. It includes 45 minutes-1 hour session and you'll receive a disc with 10-20 edited images in color and black and white and the rights to print them yourself.

Post Holiday-Hiatus

Okay friends, I confess I've been a little MIA lately but I have thoroughly enjoying an eventful Christmas and New Years with family and the fun hasn't ended yet. Due to the snow at Christmas, we are just now heading up to Asheville to see my family this weekend!

Here's a few picture highlights that you missed back in November and December and I'll try to stay on task now that the new year has begun! It's hard not to get distracted as I now have a 7 month old, who, although she isn't crawling yet, she is actively rolling everywhere. I'm not talking back and forth-- I mean going to distance via rolling... yes. We are starting to barricade...

My New Normal

Well, things around my house have changed quite a bit the last few months. Working is squeezed in between feeding, playing, and caring for our now, almost four month old! I'm afraid my blog has been getting the shaft because it's a miracle I'm getting the rest of my work done! (not always during daylight hours!)

Over the last couple of months, despite the way it appears on my blog, I've been very busy!

I enjoyed meeting lots of soon-to-be moms at Mary Black Maternity Fair a few weeks ago and look forward to working with many of you!

I also can't wait to share the beautiful bridal portraits I took of Miss Leslie Mitchell but we'll have to wait until after NEXT weekend when we celebrate their big day so the fiance isn't tempted to sneak a peek! And of course, we'll have some great pics from the wedding by then as well!

The month of October is always my busiest month for family sessions as we all take advantage of the beautiful fall colors and (hopefully) cooler weather. We are also anticipating the upcoming holiday season where many of you will send out those family pictures to all the people you mean to keep in touch with. Somehow it all ends up in one letter at the end of the year, catching everyone up on the last 365 days of our life. And for some of us, no time for a letter, but a picture is worth a thousand words!

well, I'm slowly but surely getting back to work after spending several weeks with my new baby girl Addison. It's hard to believe she is already 5 weeks old! Time flies, just like they all said it would.

Lucky for me, my first session was for a sweet friend of mine who has been pregnant with me! I was due June 4th and she was due July 8th (although Benjamin made his debut a few days early!) Here's a pic when we were pregnant...And here's a few favorites of Amy and Jason's new addition!

6 Month Milestones

I had a super session with the Kennedys this past weekend as their daughter reached the 6 month milestone! We had a lot of great pictures!

I wanted to use this as an opportunity to remind you all, that just because the studio is an option, doesn't mean it's always the best choice for you. I love coming to your home to take pictures of your little ones! These pictures always turn out unique when we are able to take pictures in the nursery, the yard or porch, and other rooms in your home that speak about you and your family! I love to think outside the box and they always make for original photos!

Spring and other Pleasantries

Today, in between editing sessions, I went into the backyard to water our flower beds. We have only lived in this house for nearly 2 years and we discovered a surprise rose bush that is flourishing and I'm hoping it will bloom this year! I also planted a lot of bulbs last year-- NONE of which came up-- I was sad but not surprised. BUT, this year, they did come up! Yay! Tulips and Daffodils and a few other things that haven't bloomed yet so I have no idea what they are. If you haven't noticed, I'm not much of a green thumb. Anyway, after watering, I noticed a spiderweb that popped up in one of our patio chairs a few days ago. The trees have been shedding into the web so we have all these floating phantom leaf things caught in the web. So, naturally, with the hosepipe in my hand, I switched the nozzle over to power-spray and shot the web only to find a BLACK WIDOW scramble out from under the arm of the chair! YIKES! This is only 6 feet from my backdoor. So, naturally, I did what any woman, 8 months pregnant would do... I went and got the camera. Here's a few shots. Just as we learned in 5th grade science, a bright red hourglass was on her abdomen.... Be sure to click on the pictures for a bigger view!

Last week, I discovered my 12 year old cat, Winston, who I've had for the last six years had a large tumor and had to be put to sleep. You can imagine my distress, 7 1/2 months pregnant, thinking I was taking my cat to get some medicine and finding out he had a tumor. Putting a pet to sleep is always hard to do, even when we know it's the right thing. The Wright house has been a sad house!

It will take some time to adjust to life without Winston but he will always be missed and loved.

I wanted to share one of my favorite pictures of Winston sitting in the window sunning-- one of his favorite things to do!

Last weekend I photographed Alaina for her one year pictures. We decided to recreate a first birthday cake experience complete with cupcake, birthday outfit and a balloon. Ironically enough, Alaina was too interested in the balloon to even bother with the cupcake! Nevertheless, we ended up with some super cute pictures. We also did regular one year pictures outdoors, so keep an eye out for those soon!

As promised, here are a few snapshots from my family trip to Gatlinburg over Christmas. And a baby bump picture taken at 18 weeks. For those of you who hadn't heard, we are expecting our first child on June 4th!

These are shot with my new Canon Powershot. There are times when it just isn't practical to have a huge camera so I have my new powershot that can go everywhere with me and I don't have to miss anything.

Christmas Travels

Matt and I have been world travelers the past few weeks. Well, let's make that, Southeast US travelers. We had the chance to go visit our old hometown in Charleston, SC and see some old friends. While there I was able to take pictures for some friends who just had a new baby--probably their most exciting Christmas arrival so far. He was 7 days old when we had the session.

After Charleston, we spent a few days in Columbia with Matt's family, then met some of my family in the smoky mountains of Gatlinburg TN. We had a great time in Cades Cove among other places. I look forward to sharing some personal pics from my trip soon....

Look Who's One

Sessions with one year olds are always exciting. It's hard to believe, that only one year since birth, kids this age have already developed a wholehearted sense of independence. Surely this stems from their recently acquired walking abilities, among other things. Therefore, I spend most of the photo session trying to teach these sweet kiddos how to STAY and then dance around wildly so they'll look at me and smile. These photo session provide a better workout than any treadmill could ever do.

In the end, we have great smiles and beautiful fresh faces from these precious kiddos.... here's a few favorites from my last session with Corbin and the 'rents!

Last week I photographed an Open House for Cancer Centers of the Carolinas. They recently opened a new facility in the Greer area to help cancer patients get the treatment they need closer to home. I had such a fun session today with little 8 month old, Alaina. We went to the park which was WAY too hot and we didn't last long there but we ended up at the studio with a simple white backdrop and some beautiful natural light coming in the window.

We ended up with so many great shots and great facial expressions! I had such a fun time, I've decided to offer mini sessions for 'many faces'. Labor Day was a great day to relax and have fun. My hubby and I took our boxer, Bella over to Paris Mountain and did a little hiking and exploring. I confess we've lived in Greenville 18 months and that is the first time we've been to Paris Mountain State Park! We had a blast. Of course, we didn't forget to wear our Gamecocks t-shirts over to Chick-fil-A and get our free Chicken Sandwich. The line was out the door!

I wrapped up the labor day holiday with an awesome photo session with the Hash family. I had so many pictures I loved that I had a hard time choosing which ones to post for their sneak peak! What a beautiful and fun family!

it's not really about the coffee. it's the smell. the ability

to sit reading, writing, studying, daydreaming, planning,

people watching ... just being.

iPod.

i love to be alone with music in my head. i like to walk

the city streets with my earbuds in my ears and feeling

like I have my own life soundtrack. it makes me walk

with a bounce in my step. it makes me feel like i'm moving

a little more gracefully. i feel invincible. it inspires me to be

a more creative artist.

early to rise.

i acknowledge this as a special moment because it happens

so rarely. when it does though, i feel inspired to be a more

productive individual. i accomplish more. i work harder.

i make more checks on my to-do list. i enjoy the day because

time is not wasted and i wish desperately, that i could convince

my sleeping self to remember this feeling so i will be more inspired

to get up when my alarm goes off. unfortunately, my sleeping self

is not a very good listener.

change.

i get bored so easily. i find monotony frustrating. it makes me

want to travel just to get a change of scenery. it makes me want

to quit my job. it makes me want to run. it makes me want to cut

my hair. when the seasons change i feel just a little refreshed. like

i can break out all the clothes i haven't worn in several months and

have a sudden and invigorating change of pace. i would never wish

for it to be a pleasant 70 degrees and sunny everyday. change is good.

(outside of politics)

giving blood.

as americans i believe we are mostly selfish people.

we like to benefit even from our own giving. there is

no personal benefit to giving blood. here's what you'll

experience.

1. a somewhat painful stick in the arm but not unbearable.

2. the possibility of getting a little lightheaded or nauseaus.

3. the necessity of taking it easy for the next 24 hours.

4. losing one hour in our day.

only 5% of our population believes that to be a price worth

paying to save a life yet 95% of people will NEED blood in

their lifetime. here's what happens when you don't give blood.

1. hospitals run out.

2. people die or suffer unneccesarily.

during summers and holidays hospitals frequently have to

ration blood because the supply is so low. it's time to stop

making excuses and make a tiny self sacrifice to save a life.

a life of someone you will never meet or know but a life just

the same. it matters.

to do lists.

i love lists. this keeps with the theme of productivity. i guess

what i love more than the list is putting checks on the lists.

a challenge.

i always enjoy a good competition. keeps us alive and striving

to do more and better. a challenge inspires.

love.

this is why i can't stop watching 'you've got mail' and 'pride

and prejudice'.

french toast.

the best comfort food. throw in some fresh strawberries and

cheese grits on the side and you can't go wrong.

Just spent a fabulous week at Cherry Grove Beach with my husband Matt's family. Our daily activities consisted of going to the beach, reading on the beach, napping on the beach, lunch, reading on the porch, kayaking in the ocean (my new favorite thing!), napping on the porch... etc. You get the idea. What a week!

One night we all got dressed and took a family photo on the beach. This was my task but obviously a little more difficult since I also need to be IN the picture. Yay for tripods!

This weekend I was lucky enough to have my sister visiting with her family, including 3 little kiddos (all under the age of 4). Kara Beth, the youngest, turned one yesterday and I had a great time taking some one year pics of her as well as the other kiddos.

I was especially excited because I took a newborn pics of her last year in an old green chair that belonged to my grandfather. You may have seen this chair in many of my pics. And yesterday I was able to take another picture of her in the same chair. You can really see how much she's changed in the last year!

Chloe turned one last week and I had the privilege of taking some pics with her on her birthday. Although the rain caused our session to come to a halt, we got lots of great shots! You can see how Chloe's grown if you look back at her 6 month session in January's archives!

On June 27, I had the privilege of shooting a Big Fabulous Greek Wedding for a dear friend! It was my first Greek wedding and I was fascinated with the beautiful traditions they hold in their ceremony. I've posted a few of my favorite pics.

These candles were lit in loving memory of special family members.

Some traditional Greek dancing took place during the reception. I was disappointed I was working because I would have loved to join in!

This past weekend our dear friends Mark and Laurie came to visit with their 14 month old daughter Sophia! I knew we were going to have a blast as soon as Sophia started laughing hysterically at our dog and scooting around the house trying to catch up to her.

We are having 6 summer interns working at the church helping with backyard Bible Clubs, Sports Camps, Kidsfest and other summer programs. I spent Saturday afternoon with one stunning bride in Columbia SC at the State House. Her wedding is fast approaching! The bridal portrait session is one of my favorite sessions to photograph. This weekend I had the privilege of photographing the Spartanburg County Parks and Recreation Annual Easter Egg Scramble. Thousands of parents and kiddos came out to USC Upstate where 4 soccer fields were covered in 13,000 easter eggs!

The weather was absolutely perfect. The 'scramble' was followed by an omelet cookoff, inflatables, face painting, train rides and a few real rabbits to visit. It was a great event. Kudos to SCPRC. Visit their website for more exciting happening around Spartanburg. http://www.scprc.org/.

Morning Glory

It has been raining here for several days but yesterday the sun came out and the skies turned to blue and it was a beautiful day! I noticed yesterday morning, the field behind our house had a layer of fog hovering over the ground and the sun was rising up behind it. It was a breathtaking view. This morning, I looked out the window and there it was again. It isn't very often we get a second chance to capture something so beautiful so I grabbed my camera and ran outside.

Psalms 19:1,5-6,14 The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. In the heavens he has pitched a tent for the sun, which is like a bridegroom coming forth from his pavilion, like a champion rejoicing to run his course. It rises at one end of heavens and makes its circuit to the other; nothing is hidden from its heat.

May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.

Wow, sorry it's been so long since I've posted! My days have been full of fun visits with growing babies! It's so exciting to see newborns back for more pictures to document their growth as time flies by!

As The Water Falls

This weekend Matt and I took a road trip...well, a few actually. From Friday to Monday we actually drove on 6 different interstates. Funny huh? We had a business engagement in Columbia Friday morning and decided since we were halfway there, we'd go ahead and visit Charleston for a day or two... We happened to be there for the Wildlife Expedition and saw some amazing animals! I'm ashamed to say, I didn't have my camera with me--it was raining a little and I didn't want to risk it, so I only have snapshots on my camera phone. Boo, I know.

But, on Sunday and Monday we headed up to Asheville and even though it was 21 degrees outside when we considered venturing out, Matt dragged me out for a hike. (We waiting till it got a little warmer --30s !! ). But boy am I glad we went! We went to Linville Falls which includes a fabulous short hike to the bottom of the falls through Linville Gorge-- straight down to get there and straight up to get back ...argh! It was definitely worth it though---what a beautiful view.

I've come to terms with the facts that pictures don't do justice for a waterfall. You can't hear the loud screaming water as it dumps into the river, but nevertheless, I'll take pictures anyway.

Old Friends

It is so much fun to get together with old college friends and reminsce on old times! I had a blast from the past with my college roommate Sarah this weekend. She came to town with her 6 week old baby girl for a photo session! It was quite surreal to be photographing my college roommate's BABY! Makes me feel old! We had a lot of fun thinking up unique ways to photograph sweet Alaina. And keep your eyes peeled. ..Sarah will be stopped by once a month for pictures to document Alaina's first year in the world. I'm so excited we'll get to see her grow, month by month. Here are a few of my favorites from our first session:

I've been having a lot of success with my word art lately! Although Christmas has come and gone, the year is full of birthdays and special occasions that call for gift giving and this is a really unique gift that most people would love and most likely don't already have. It's personal!

Winter Wonders

Hi Friends!

Anyone else enjoy seeing some snow on the ground this week?! Southern born and bred, usually I have to drive a ways to get to snow but this week it came to me. There's something fantastic about crawling out of bed, glancing out the window, and seeing a sea of white...well, speckled white. It didn't QUITE cover the ground... :)

I had 3 wonderful baby sessions this week! I've been so busy snapping pictures that today was the first chance I've had to go through them. On Monday, I had a fabulous session with 6 month old Chloe-- a stunning young lady! They invited me to their house to take pictures in her beautiful nursery!

New Year Fresh Start

I always love the beginning of a new year. Really, even a new month excites me. To me, each month, each year, is just the next chapter in the story of my life. Some months or years are more difficult than others. Some are filled with tragedy, others success. Some we might want to hold on to a little tighter and others we are anxious to let go and move on. This is the beauty of life.

Hopefully some changes will be happening at Libby Wright Photography in the coming year as well. We are experiencing a lot of growth and that is exciting! Some wonderful opportunities are looming in the horizon and I am anxious to see what takes place in 2009!

On another note, I had a really fun session with a family in my church. They have a great house on a lake so we had a great scenic background for our pictures!

The girls also helped me out with a photo project I was working on. They paddled back and forth on the lake for quite a while as I worked on getting the right shot. Thanks Kate and Alli!

I can't think of a better Christmas present than having a newborn join the family! I had a session with this lovely family and their new son the weekend before Christmas. Although he was not entirely happy that I came for a visit with my bright lights, we ended up with some precious pictures.
